We are seeking an experienced consultant to help develop and implement a comprehensive curriculum for our School of Entrepreneuring (6th to 12th). The role will initially focus on development of our 6th grade curriculum.
School background
Our school’s success will be judged by our ability to deliver on 1 outcome:
Cultivating capable leaders. A leader solves problems that serve others.
In order to do this, we deconstructed leadership into 4 constituent superpowers we need to equip our students with:
- Elite critical thinking and problem-solving
- Unshakeable adaptability and resilience
- Masterful communication and collaboration
- Boundless curiosity about the world
With those determined, we built a purposeful pedagogical model built on five core principles:
- Hands-on creation, not passive consumption – A bias to action & creation via project-based learning and rapid prototyping.
- Fail fast, learn faster – Productive struggle and failure create resilience, learning and an orientation towards self-improvement and growth.
- Real-world challenges, real-world impact – Solving problems in service of others is good for humanity.
- Every student a teacher, every teacher a mentor – True understanding and mastery comes from the ability to teach & collaborate with others.
- Curiosity-driven, market-tested – Self-directed learning with real-world relevance
We are looking for someone to work alongside the founders to bring this alive and create a model where 100% of our students are engaged because learning has gone from passive chore to exciting adventure.
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed lesson plans and projects oriented around entrepreneurship that develop the 4 skills and qualities above.
- Implement a Peer Instruction model that focuses on competencies over content. Peer instruction is student-based, social and focused on learning by doing vs learning by listening. If unfamiliar with the term, I’ve written in-depth about it here.
- Seamlessly integrate common core objectives in math and language arts into the curriculum. For example, integrate ratios, probability and statistics and algebraic concepts into the development of a financial model students create for their business ideas.
Qualifications
- Successful experience in curriculum development
- Strong understanding of student-centered and experiential learning methodologies.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Entrepreneurial experience is a big plus
- Experience in working with middle school students
- Familiarity with common core requirements
Desired Skills / Attributes
- Creativity in lesson planning and instructional design.
- Ability to engage and inspire students and teachers.
- Strong analytical skills to assess and improve curriculum effectiveness.
- Knowledge of current educational technologies and tools.
- Unafraid of hard work & deadlines
- Able to support ideas with research and evidence, i.e. facts over feelings
- Be creative and quick on your feet
- Excited by the vision for The School of Entrepreneuring
- Willing to get into the details and get your hands dirty
- Believe in markets, capitalism, entrepreneurship and the USA as forces for good and optimism
Future potential
- While this is a consulting position to start, for an entrepreneurially minded educator, this could turn into a more significant role building a transformational school
- Eventually, this role will also likely require providing training and support for teachers.
- It will also require building out curriculum for other grades
- It will also likely require evaluating and refining the curriculum based on feedback and outcomes.
